In the world of virtual walking November began in El Calon, Spain. In the real world it began with a particularly nasty stomach bug, caught from CJ, that laid me low for almost a week. October miles

My virtual October began in Alicante, a city with a long and varied history. More than eight thousand years ago the first tribes of hunter gatherers from Central Europe settled on the slopes of Alicante’s Mount Benacantil.  Over the next few thousand years small trading ports were established and, in the third century BC, Carthaginian general, Hamilcar Barca, built a fortified settlement,  Akra Leuka, meaning white mountain, where Alicante stands today. September miles

My virtual September began on the beach on the outskirts of Valencia. The coastline is dotted with holiday villas and small, purpose built holiday villages. The first I passed through was Port sa Platja, seven miles into the week. It’s a pretty little place filled with boats and handy places to stay, away from the hubbub of the big city. August miles

My virtual August began where July ended, in Cambrils, the pretty little seaside town in Catalonia, Spain, popular with Spanish holidaymakers. Sadly, this month Cambrils, along with Barcelona’s Las Ramblas have hit the headlines with shocking and cowardly terrorist attacks. These things make me despair of the real world so much I think I prefer the virtual one. Continue reading August miles
