Five run fifty at fifty – fifty miles and beyond

It didn’t take us long to get to the final stop of the day. The forty mile point was on Test Lane, near the old Redbridge bridge. We parked in the car park of The Anchor pub and waited. An icy wind was blowing up off the River Test and the sun was beginning to set. It was getting close to four o’clock. We shivered and pulled our coats around us. Testing the Test Boardwalk – first published 24 August 2014

After my 2014 visit to Eling Tide Mill I headed for the Boardwalk across the River Test. In truth I didn’t really know where I was going. When I saw the sign for the long distance Test Way walk I double checked on WalkJogRun just be be really sure I went the right way. Much as I’d like to try the forty four mile walk one day when I have time on my hands and I’m feeling strong it wasn’t something I wanted to tackle on a Sunday afternoon when I had loads to do at home. Power lines, fields, a lost station and a mill

My last few walks have all been about postcards and familiar places so today I thought I’d go somewhere completely different and explore the marshes of the River Test. This is an area I do not know well so a great deal of planning and plotting was needed and, even with a map on my phone, getting lost was a distinct possibility.
